On arrival, there is a key safe box at a wheelchair accessible height. The door widths are 1000mm. There is good circulation space of 1500mm along with flexible furniture. The oak hand-crafted kitchen has lowered worktops, space under the sink, lowered oven and microwave. There is a remote control to operate the extractor fan and pull down shelving within the cabinets. The bathroom has a level access shower with removable stylish grab rails. The bath has a 'secret removable panel' to allow a mobile hoist to lower a person into the bath. Feel the warmth of the log burning stove, with endless free logs, whilst relaxing in the sumptuous, luxurious furnishings in the lounge. Huddle by the fire in the branded white soft dressing gowns and slippers after enjoying a hot bath with The White Company toiletries. The Dairy is situated in the grounds of the owners farmhouse, and guests can freely wander through the extensive cottage garden and the potting and planting area. Both Diane and Andrew have experienced first hand caring for a loved one with Dementia. They have worked closely with organisations to create a warm welcome and have become Dementia Friends. Check out the Dementia Friendly information on the website. If your loved one wants a familiar song/playlist playing on your arrival...it will be done! There are Dementia Friendly signage for the kitchen to help in unfamiliar spaces. Mirrors can be covered on request. There is a black mat on entry which can be removed on request. Whatever your needs, talk to Diane and she will make it happen.

Registered assistance dogs only are allowed. We have a 'Doggy Welcome Pack' and dog water bowls on request.

On arrival, gluten free biscuits/chocolate can be provided. The Dairy is a self catering holiday property, but Leyburn is the 'home' of the Gluten Free Kitchen which produces food supplied at many outlets around the country. Having this local provision means that many eateries in the area have a wonderful gluten free offer. Cambells of Leyburn, is an award winning, family owned supermarket in the heart of Leyburn. They have an amazing selection of 'Free-From' products, as well as being a World-Class wine retailer. The beauty of having Leyburn Market Town close by is that there is a wonderful array of shops where you can get everything you need!
Is The Dairy Autism friendly?
The Dairy is a wonderful Autism Friendly experience. Think blues, green, natural products such as stone and granite, along with nature. Surrounded by peace, within a Dark Skies area, and the extensive garden with a water feature, and visual garden trail, it's the perfect spot. Inside the property, there is a bubble tube, star projector cube, various lighting options, and choice boards for help with preparing a loved ones day out. A Sensory Story is available which describes the 5 senses and what to expect and Diane has even produced a Welcome Makaton Video after undertaking a Basic Makaton Course, and The National Autistic Society Autism Training. If you would like a 'Familiarisation Visit' to help prepare a loved to the environment, don't hesitate to get in touch. The Dairy is a wonderful barn which feels easy to navigate and get to know. There is good lighting and good visual contrast. With lots of sensory opportunities mentioned above, it 'feels' amazing. All printed information is at least 14 points in size. There is a large display alarm clock as well as audio description on the TV's A magnifying glass is on the welcome information shelf and an illuminated magnifying mirror is in the bathroom.

There is a portable hearing loop, Deafgard vibrating pillow to alert someone sleeping in case of a fire, and subtitles available on the TV.
